"Workshop for Teachers
on Environmental Risk", Wien Assembly of the European Union of
Geosciences, 25 April 2005
This special session at the EGU meeting in April 2005 has been intended
to offer secondary school teachers in Physics, Geography and Earth Sciences
an opportunity to upgrade their knowledge in modern geophysics around
the natural hazards, through lectures and discussions with leading scientists
in the field.
It has also constituted an excellent opportunity to meet and exchange
experiences of teaching with colleagues from different European countries,
mainly about how to approach the aspects of mitigation, assessement
of natural risks in the school. 70 teachers (10 teachers from NARAS
grant) from 12 countries attended the meeting.
Several educational kits were developed in collaboration with French
school teachers. They include two software: SeisGram2K (educational
software for the analysis of seismograms) and Cartotek (Geographical
Information System for Seismology), and a tool kit with model and posters
for the school (tool seismobox).
All the tools and software are implemented on the educational Website
of UNSA (http://www.eduseis.ne).
A French version of a Cook-book for educational training for pupils
in order to raise their consciousness about natural hazards and risks
has been prepared and published in French. An English version is ready
and will be be published soon.
