Hydrogeology and coastal systems
The problem of early warning of extreme hydrogeological events,
particularly of floods and solid mass movements, is approached
by AMRA through the implementation of a hierarchical system, based
on rain fall and hydrometric data complemented by probabilistic
rain fall forecasts. The system integrates:
-
a validation and archiving module;
-
a rain fall modelling module;
-
a hydraulic modelling module.
They have been built using innovative numerical models and they
are aimed at a probabilistic evaluation of the impact of extreme
meteorological events.
AMRA used these principles to implement an Integrated
System of Early Warning of Extreme Hydro-geological events
at the Civil Protection of Regione Campania. It uses the real
time data from the rain gauges and hydro meters networks of Civil
Protection of Regione Campania. The early warning system is built
on SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) platform.
It allows on line visualization of time sequences of rain fall
intensities and hydrometric heights. Then it forecast hydrometric
heights for various time windows, works out forecasted scenarios
and probability of exceedence of threshold limits. These information
trigger the activation of actions planned for the proper alarm
level.
AMRA is developping a continuous research activity in the frame
of national and european projects, aimed at the improvement of
the reliability of the arly warning system and of issued alarms.
The activity is presently focussed on:
-
the response of clays typical of Campania
Apennines;
-
the origin and scenarios of floods and solid
mass movements in urban environment:
-
the identification of parameters fit for
early warning of landslides.
