Research interests Experimental determination of ozone friendly and natural refrigerant thermophysical properties during flow boiling, carbon dioxide trans-critical refrigerating plants, performances of components for refrigeration, modelling of transient phenomena in vapour compression refrigerating plants, high power densities cooling systems.
Short curriculum vitae Since November 1st, 1994 she is full professor in Applied thermodynamics at Federico II University of Naples.

Academic carrier
Rita Maria Antonietta Mastrullo got a degree in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Naples on the 28th of February, 1978. After getting some fellowships, she has been Researcher in the same Faculty since October 31st ,1980 in the I05 group. She has been Associate Professor in Applied Thermodynamics in the same Faculty of Engineering from 1987. Since 2006 is the head of the Department of Energetica, TErmofluidodinamica applicata e Condizionamenti ambientali (DETEC).

Educational activities
Currently she teaches Applied Thermodynamics and Refrigeration for mechanical engineers at Federico II University of Naples. During last years till now she has been temporary teacher of Thermofluidynamics and Heat transfer in Energetic engineering at University of Sannio in Benevento. She is deputy teacher in Applied Thermodynamics for Civil engineering at the Air Force Academic in Pozzuoli.
She was deputy professor of “Applied Thermodynamics and plants” at the Faculty of Architecture, Energetics at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cassino, “Environmental control techniques” at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Naples, SUN. She had courses in Applied thermodynamics also for students of the Bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering. It had several educational courses in the energetic field under agreements with industrial partners. She is and has been tutor of PhD programs for both numerical and experimental research issues about saving energy, refrigeration and modeling and controlling of energy conversion systems. She is coauthor of educational textbooks and softwares for courses in Applied Thermodynamics and Refrigeration. She was engaged in the development of an experimental educational course in cooperation with Centro didattico scientifico of Federico II University of Naples.

Research activities

She is a reviewer for international magazines, among others, Applied Thermal Engineering and International Journal of Refrigeration. Since 2008 she is member of B1 Commission of International Institute of Refrigeration. She is engaged as coordinator in research projects of national interest. She was and is responsible for research agreements with public and private companies. In her early research activities she focused her attention about methodologies and techniques for the use and recovery of solar energy. She participated in the researches on a passive solar heating and conditioning system for civil use. She cooperated in the set up of two prototypes at a school in Florence. Then the research activities developed in the field of Applied Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer. In particular, several test facilities were developed to experimentally investigate the performances of refrigerating plants as a whole and for each component. The following aspects has been studied: influence of compressor speed, electronic expansion devices, control strategies with fuzzy logic, heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops about pure and mixed refrigerant. Now an experimentation about heat transfer performance of carbon dioxide, pure and mixed, during flow boiling is in progress. At the same time her research team is developing a model for the simulation of steady-state and transient operation of refrigerating equipment for the domestic and commercial refrigeration. Some of these research activities are carried out in collaboration with foreign research institutes, among them, LTCM of EPFL in Lausanne (CH).

Institutional activities

Since 1996 is coordinator of Applied Thermodynamics teachers within the Department of Energetica, TErmofluidodinamica applicata e Condizionamenti ambientali (DETEC). Since 2007 is a member of the National Committee of “Fisica Tecnica”. She is member of the scientific committee for the PhD course in Energetics at the University of Palermo. She was coordinator of the Committee of Faculty for relations with institutions and the productive and services world. She is a member of the Committee for the cost of teaching staff for the Faculty of Engineering at the University Federico II of Naples. She was, many times, member of commissions for PhD, Researcher and Professor admission exams.
Publications The scientific production is composed by about 100 works published on Proceedings, National and International scientific Journals.
